Hot. When packing for a Caribbean vacation, always think hot. This is uniform throughout the year; hot with the occasional breeze. During a winter vacation, there may be a torrent of rainfall during the day - for about 10 minutes. This will suddenly cease and one minute later everything will again be dry and hot, muggy and humid. The rainy season starts in June and becomes the hurricane season from August to October; many hotels simply shut down to batten down the hatches and prepare for the worst. Vacationers please note: Hurricanes rarely occur in the southernmost reaches of the Windward Islands (Grenada, Tobago, Trinidad) and the islands along the coast of Venezuela, including Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.
